Researchers from TWRA – Tropical Water Research Alliance involved in the project “Sustainable Development and Biodiversity Conservation of the Tocantins-Araguaia Hydrographic Basin as a Demonstration Area“, are in the field carrying out a new expedition.
The collections began on May 13 with the monitoring of the tributary streams on the left bank of the Araguaia (Rio das Mortes, das Garças and Cristalino). A staggering 2,000 km of roads and 38 sampling points were completed. Sampling on the right bank, tributaries of the Rio dos Peixes, Crixás and Vermelho, started on the 20th and continued until the 27th.
The collections include the sampling of physical, chemical, biological and hydrological variables, which will make it possible to understand the functioning of the ecosystems of the region’s streams and also the elaboration of models to define a program for monitoring the region’s waters.
The project proposed by TWRA to the Águas Brasileiras Program was approved in March 2021 and is in full swing.
