The Ministério do Desenvolvimento Regional (MDR) announced this Wednesday (16), the first projects for the revitalization of hydrographic basins, selected in a public notice carried out in February 2021, which will also be sponsored through the Águas Brasileiras Program. These initiatives will receive more than R$ 6 million for recovery and conservation actions.
The project entitled “Sustainable Development and Biodiversity Conservation of the Tocantins-Araguaia Hydrographic Basin as a Demonstration Area“, selected by the TWRA – Tropical Water Research Alliance, aims to develop environmental technologies and offer methodological support for the development of integrated and sustainable management of tropical watersheds, by training teams and mitigating the effects of environmental degradation and climate change. In addition, a startup incubation program and training on the subject are part of the initiative. The execution period will be 24 months with an investment of R$2,000,000.00 by Banco Itaú.
In total, 26 projects were selected in a public notice held this year. They cover more than 250 municipalities in 10 states and aim at the sustainable use of natural resources and improving the availability of water in quantity and quality for multiple uses. In total, the program coordinated by the MDR has already raised around R$ 48 million with the private initiative for actions to revitalize hydrographic basins.
