The project between TWRA – Tropical Water Research Alliance and the Australian Rivers Institute (ARI) of Griffith University, with resources from the Australian government (Direct Aid Program – DAP) was prominently publicized by AIBA (Association of Farmers and Irrigators of Bahia), in its 23rd edition. The pilot project “Comprehensive Assessment of Threats and Bioeconomic Solutions in the western Bahia region of the São Francisco River Basin” aims to evaluate the #threats and #bioeconomic solutions implemented in the region and propose scenarios that guarantee the #sustainability of agricultural production and of #natural resources.
The research uses the “Comprehensive Framework of Assessment of Bioeconomic Threats and Solutions” method, which aims to model the relationships between agricultural #productivity and #ecosystem services in a dynamic and complex socioeconomic system, with the aim of achieving sustainability. The data generated will be used to develop indicators of #quality of soil and water conditions, in addition to providing details that will support the suitability of the scale for the implementation of management technologies in the region.
Started in May/2022, the project is in the data analysis phase and discussion of the results obtained. In addition to publishing the results in international scientific journals, the project proposes a final on-site workshop to be held in the city of Barreiras/BA until the first quarter of this year.
After the project, it is expected that the results can stimulate the #development of studies in other basins and on regional scales, contributing to a sustainable #management of natural resources, bringing greater #water security to agricultural producers and other users of water resources .
